Moving Day: The Things You Might Forget
Between buying a new home, packing up all of the things that you own in your old home and moving into your new place, it is easy to forget essential things that you may need for the first nights in your new place. Unpacking can be a daunting task once you’ve begun moving in. Make sure your essential items are close by and the transition to your new place will be easy.
Food & Beverages
Having prepared meals and beverages readily available will make the move immensely easier. Pack up a cooler with sandwiches, snacks and drinks so you won’t have to stop moving and unpacking to grab a bite and a drink. Don’t forget to pack plastic cups, plastic cutlery, paper plates for easy disposal to avoid washing dishes. If you’re moving to a new town and are unfamiliar with the local eateries, having food on hand will be a huge time saver.
Keys, Phone, Wallet
Keeping essential items close by seems like a no brainer, right? When you’ve got a handful of things on your mind to make sure your move runs as smooth as possible, it is easy to misplace those items you’re used to having with you. Put your keys on a carabiner and hook them onto the belt loop of your pants. Keep your phone in your pocket or purse when not in use.
Important Documents
Important documents such as social security cards, birth certificates, deeds to the home or other essential irreplaceable documents should be kept in a folder within a zip-lock bag to keep them dry. Store the documents in a place that is easily accessible such as where you’re keeping your clothes overnight. The documents should be transferred to their final storage place such as a safe or storage container once it’s unpacked.
